A new series of showcase at Backstage, promoting a cross-over of music and culture, between different bands and musicians in different nation. For each show, a local band or musician will be invited to share the stage with the performer from overseas! If you like to make different friends through music, we provide the channel!
On 9th Dec, “The New Freedom” will be flying from New Zealand, bringing to Backstage the sound of kiwi rock!

Falling between coldplay, razorlight and crowded house, the new freedom effortlessly combines elements of pop, rock and soul to create an epic and international sound.
The band released its debut album ‘A Thousand Nights’ during 2008 - Produced in NZ by Marshall Smith and Tom Fox@The Sound Room and mixed and mastered by US producer Ed Goldfarb (KD Lang, Morcheba, Boys II Men).
The New Freedom regularly plays in major venues throughout Auckland and festivals with a 5000+ fans base. The band is very excited to be undertaking a tour of China including a Hong Kong Stop at Backstage.

Marshall Smith – Lead Vocal & Keys
(Finalist for ‘Song of the Year’ at APRA Silver Scroll Awards)
Tom Fox – Vocal & Guitar
(ex- Front man of a south Africa band ‘Bright Blue”, Tom co-wrote a song ‘Weeping’ with Josh Groban in 2006, included in an album which went to #1 on USA Billboard Chart in late 2006).
Geoff Perkins – Bass
Chris Grant – Drums and Percussion
